NEWARK, DELAWARE (11/25/2015) Shots were fired during a robbery after the victim drove off with one of the bandits still inside his car, Newark police reported this morning.

The robbery happened about 10:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 300 block of E. Main St., at the parking lot of the Colonial Gardens Apartments.

The victim, a 22-year-old man, had driven there to pick someone up, Sgt. Gerald Bryda said.

One of the robbers entered his vehicle on the passenger side and started going through his belongings while the other stood outside the driver’s door pointing a handgun at him.

Bryda said as the victim drove away at high speed with the man still inside the vehicle, he heard what sounded like two gunshots.

The robber jumped from the vehicle on McKees Lane and fled on foot.

A K-9 search failed to locate the two robbers.

The victim was not injured.

Both suspects were described as black males. The one with a handgun was 19-20 years old and about 5-feet-10 with medium build. He was wearing a green hooded shirt and light colored sweat pants.

The other was 18-19 years old, about 5-feet-8 and skinny. He was wearing a grey hooded shirt and blue jeans.
