BEAR, DELAWARE (11/23/2015) A 34-year-old Wilmington man was charged with impersonating a police officer after a traffic stop in Bear, the New Castle County police said Sunday.

Two officers stopped a Ford Explorer about 9 p.m. Friday at Pulaski Highway (U.S. 40) and Bear Christiana Road (Route 7) after they determined the registered owner had a suspended license.

Police said the driver, identified as Abdula Ward, was wearing a shirt with “POLICE” written on it and they also spotted a handheld radio, handcuffs and other law enforcement equipment.

A search also found a blank gun with live ammunition, Officer First Class Tom JacksonĀ said.

Ward was charged with felony impersonation of a police officer and possession of ammunition by a person prohibited due to a previous conviction.

He was being held at Young Correctional Institution in Wilmington in lieu of $15,000 cash bail.
