DOVER, DELAWARE (6/29/2015) A driver was injured but escaped from her car just before it became engulfed in flames Sunday on Route 1, Delaware State Police said.
The accident just north of the Exit 95 on-ramp in Dover happened in the northbound lanes about 5:35 p.m.
For unknown reasons, police said, a 2000 Hyundai Accent driven by Ericha Prather, 35, of Newark, struck a guardrail and then a light pole, causing the vehicle to catch fire.
The pole fell across the northbound lanes of the highway, blocking all traffic for an hour.
Prather was taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital for injuries not life-threatening, police said. Charges are pending.
