17-year-old boy killed in crash near Middletown

DSP logoMIDDLETOWN, DELAWARE (6/1/2015) A 17-year-old boy was killed in a crash on U.S. 13 south of Middletown this afternoon, Delaware State Police said.

The accident involving two vehicles happened about 3:55 p.m. at Fieldsboro Road.

The boy killed was identified as Timothy G. Leonzio of Middletown.

Police said Leonzio was driving south in a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am and making a left turn onto Fieldsboro Road when he was struck by a northbound pickup truck.

The pickup, a 2012 Dodge Ram, was in the right lane and driven by David E. Wissinger, 51, of Smyrna.

The Dodge struck the right side of the Pontiac and both vehicles went off the northeast corner of the intersection, police said.

Leonzio was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, where he was pronounced dead.

Wissinger also was taken by ambulance to Christiana with injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.

Police are still investigating but they do not expect charges to be filed.

The northbound lanes of U.S. 13 were closed about two hours as police investigated.
