BOYDS CORNER, DELAWARE (4/21/2015) A Lewes woman was injured in a crash that shut southbound Route 1 near Boyds Corner for more than half an hour this evening, according to reports from the scene, causing a major backup after a tire blew out on a car.

The accident was reported about 6:50 p.m. south of Pole Bridge Road (Exit 142). One car was overturned in the roadway and another was in a ditch on the west side of the road, facing north.

Traffic began moving again about 7:35 p.m., with a single lane on the shoulder getting by the overturned car still in the roadway.

State police said a 2004 Honda Civic was traveling south in the right lane when the back left tire blew out. The 40-year-old driver from Pennsylvania lost control, striking a 2015 Hyundai Sonata in the left lane.

The Hyundai, driven by a 50-year-old woman from Lewes, overturned, landing on its roof. She was flown to Christiana Hospital and was in stable condition with injuries not life-threatening, police said.

The Civic spun around and ended up off the west side of the road.

The driver and a passenger in the Civic were both uninjured, police said.

Troopers are still investigating and no charges have been filed.

Delaware City, Port Penn and Odessa ambulances were dispatched.
