MILLSBORO, DELAWARE (4/13/2015) A bus driver and two children escaped safely out the rear door when a school bus caught fire this morning west of Millsboro, Delaware State Police said.

The fire broke out about 6:45 a.m. when an East Millsboro Elementary bus came to a stop on Careys Camp Road between Millsboro Highway and Phillips Hill Drive.

The 41-year-old woman who was driving said the engine of the 2004 International school bus shut down and she then smelled smoke and saw flames coming from the front.

The driver and the chldren — an 11-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy — ran to a nearby house to call 911.

The roadway was closed while the wreckage was removed.

Millsboro Fire Company responded to the fire.
