DOVER, DELAWARE (4/13/2015) A 26-year-old Milton man died Sunday night in a fiery crash on a stolen motorcycle south of Dover, Delaware State Police said early today.
The accident happened about 7:10 p.m. on South State Street north of North Old Mill Road.
The man killed was identified as Eric L. Stubbs.
Police said he was operating a 2011 Suzuki G60 sports bike that had been reported stolen from the New Castle County Police Department.
Stubbs was southbound on South State Street at apparent high speed when he struck a Jeep Rubicon SUV heading north in the northbound lane after pulling out from North Old Mill Road.
The bike continued about five feet after impact before going down on its side and bursting into flames in the roadway. Stubbs, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected from the bike. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, Trey Small, 37, of Dover, and a 28-year-old female passenger, of Wilmington, were not injured.
South State Street was closed about four hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
Police said Stubbs did not have a motorcycle endorsement on his driver’s license.
