BRANDYWINE HUNDRED, DELAWARE (4/10/2015) A deal made on Instagram to sell a pair of Nike sneakers went awry when the buyer assaulted the seller and escaped with only one of the shoes, Delaware State Police said Thursday.
The crime happened about 9:15 p.m. Wednesday in the parking lot outside the Kohl’s department store at 401 Rocky Run Parkway, off Concord Pike.
The pair had agreed to meet there to complete the deal, but when they met the buyer asked to use the seller’s cellphone to contact a friend for the money. The seller refused and started to walk away when he was grabbed by the buyer.
During a struggle the buyer was able to grab just one of the sneakers and fled to a red sedan with someone else driving. It was last seen heading south on Concord Pike.
The 18-year-old seller suffered minor injuries, police said.
They described the robber as black, about 25-30 years old, 6-feet-2 to 6-feet-3 tall, 180-200 pounds with thin build. He was wearing a black jacket and dark pants.
Anyone with information is asked to call police at 302-834-2630, ext. 6.
