Wilmington man caught after chase, charged in 8 robberies

WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (1/30/2015) City police chased down a suspect in a pizza restaurant robbery and later linked him to sevenĀ other robberies in the city.

Police were alerted to a robbery in progress just after noon Wednesday at Pete’s Pizza, 2625 N. Market St. The robber was reported to be armed with a handgun with an extended magazine.

Patrolman Hector Tabron saw a man matching the description of the robber running in the first block of E. 28th St. and began a foot pursuit.

With assistance from officers Nicholas Kroll and Ashton Holden, Clayton Bush, 24, of Wilmington was taken into custody after a brief struggle in an alleyway off East 25th Street.

Police said they recovered proceeds of the robbery from Bush, as well as a gun he had discarded during the chase. The weapon turned out to be a replica handgun, police said.

Detective Thomas Curley later linked Bush to the other robberies over the past month in the northern part of Wilmington.

Bush was charged with eight counts of robbery, eight of wearing a disguise during commission of a felony and resisting arrest. He was being held in Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $200,000 cash bail.
