2 hurt in crash near Newark

NEWARK, DELAWARE (1/18/2015) A two-vehicle crash north of Newark early today trapped one driver for 25 minutes and sent two people to a hospital.

The accident happened just after 1 a.m. on Paper Mill Road at Smith Mill Road.

A 29-year-old woman was trapped in her car until extricated by firefighters from Aetna Hose, Hook & Ladder Company, said Sgt. Michael McColley of New Castle County paramedics.

McColley said the woman was in serious condition with lower extremity injuries and possible internal injuries when taken to Christiana Hospital by Aetna’s ambulance.

He said the 27-year-old driver of a Jeep Wrangler SUV was in stable condition with neck and back pain when taken to Christiana by Hockessin Fire Company’s ambulance.

State police are investigating the crash.
