WYE MILLS, MARYLAND (1/11/2015) The Delaware man who was driving a tractor-trailer that collided with a family’s small car, killing five and an unborn child, at a U.S. 50 intersection near Wye Mills has been released from the hospital, Maryland State Police said today.

Troopers are still seeking witnesses to the crash, which happened about 1:15 a.m. Saturday at the Route 213 intersection, and no charges have been filed, said police spokesman Greg Shipley.

He also said investigators now believe that Zarissa C. Ayres was driving the car at the time of the crash.  (Police today corrected the spelling of her first name.)

Ayres’ died at a hospital along with her unborn child. Four other family members — all from the Eastern Shore of Virginia — were killed in the crash. They all were on their way to a baby shower in Baltimore at the time.

Shipley said the tractor-trailer driver,  Yvenet Mayette of Wilmington, Delaware, was released Saturday from the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after treatment of his injuries.

Investigators plan to talk with Mayette and continue inspection of the wreckage this week. Shipley said findings will be reported to the Queen Anne’s County state’s attorney to determine if any charges will be filed.

Anyone who witnessed this crash is urged to contact police at 410-758-1101.

“Any information, regardless of how insignificant it may seem, could be of vital importance to this investigation,” Shipley said.
