MILTON, DELAWARE (7/19/2015) A driver who was critically injured faces a DUI charge in the head-on crash of two pickup trucks east of Milton this afternoon, Delaware State Police said. The other driver also was hospitalized.
The accident was reported at 3:36 p.m. on Cave Neck Road.
Police said a 2011 Nissan Frontier, driven by Ray Richardson, 55, of Lewes, was eastbound and crossed over the center line and struck an oncoming 1995 Toyota Tacoma with a trailer attached.
Richardson was taken by ambulance to Beebe Healthcare’s hospital in Lewes, then later flown to Christiana Hospital in Stanton in critical but stable condition, police said. He is being charged with driving under the influence, vehicular assault and other traffic charges.
The driver of the Tacoma, 28-year-old Elisandro Rodriguez-Perez of Millsboro, suffered injuries that were not life-threatening, police said, and was taken by ambulance to Beebe.
Police said both drivers were wearing seat belts.
The road was closed about two hours as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
