2 taken to hospital after I-95 crash near New Castle

NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (4/6/2018) Two drivers were taken to a hospital after a crash involving three vehicles on Interstate 95 near New Castle, the Delaware State Police said this morning.

The crash was reported at 5:26 p.m. Thursday south of Route 141.

Police said a 57-year-old Dover man was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Tahoe northbound in the right lane when he is believed to have suffered a medical emergency that caused him to lose control of the SUV.

The Tahoe veered left and collided with a Chevrolet Cobalt driven by a 27-year-old New Castle woman.

The Cobalt was forced to the left and collided with a 2011 Mazda CX-9 driven by a 47-year-old man from Franklin Park, New Jersey.

The Tahoe veered left across all lanes and collided with the concrete median barrier.

The Cobalt and Mazda came to rest in the travel lanes of I-95.

The driver of the Tahoe, who police said was not wearing a seat belt, was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton in serious condition.

The driver of the Mazda, also wearing a seat belt, was not injured.

The northbound lanes of I-95 were closed about an hour as police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
