HOCKESSIN, DELAWARE (6/26/2015) New Castle County police say a woman and a teenage boy injured when their car crashed into an SUV on Limestone Road following a police chase have been charged in connection with a robbery and a burglary earlier Thursday.
The initial incident happened about 9 a.m., when a 91-year-old woman in the 4600 block of Springer Lane reported she was grabbed from behind by an unknown woman who struggled with her, and there also was a thin male in her home.
The victim suffered a few bruises in the struggle and the intruders fled with the her purse, Officer First Class Tracey Duffy said.
About 12:20 p.m., a 56-year-old man reported a robbery at his home in the 100 block of Ramunno Circle in Hockessin.
Duffy said the man had just arrived home when he heard the door from the garage open.
“The victim believed his spouse had returned home and went to greet her in the kitchen when he was surprised by two unknown suspects. The suspect then demanded money and threatened the victim with a tire iron. The victim was able to escape from the suspects by fleeing the home through the garage door. He then ran to a neighbor’s home where he called 9-1-1 but not before observing the two suspects flee on foot into a wooded area,” Duffy said.
Responding officers observed a suspicious Chrysler sedan in the area with two people inside matching the suspects’ descriptions.
The vehicle fled onto Limestone Road from Stoney Batter Road, Duffy said, with police in pursuit.
She said the Chrysler went north on Limestone Road (Route 7) and onto the shoulder, failed to stop at a traffic signal at Little Baltimore Road/Brackenville Road, and collided with the SUV in the intersection.
The teen passenger in the Chrysler fled on foot but was eventually taken into custody, Duffy said.
The driver, Divedra Morris, 30, of Newark, and the 17-year-old were taken to Christiana Hospital where they remained today in stable condition, Duffy said.
Morris was charged with robbery, burglary, conspiracy, aggravated menacing, possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony, wearing a disguise during commission of a felony, theft under $1,500, criminal mischief, reckless endangering, disregarding a police officer’s signal and other traffic violations. She was awaiting arraignment late this morning.
The 17-year-old was charged with robbery, burglary, conspiracy, aggravated menacing, possession of a deadly weapon during commission of a felony, wearing a disguise during commission of a felony, theft under $1,500 and criminal mischief. He was ordered committed to the New Castle County Detention Center in lieu of $147,500 cash bail.
