NEW CASTLE, DELAWARE (04/14/2015) A house fire that injured two people near New Castle was started by a discarded cigarette, authorities said this afternoon.
The fire happened about 9:30 p.m. Monday at 109 Hillview Ave. in the Mayview Manor neighborhood.
Volunteers from Holloway Terrace Fire company found smoke pouring from the two-story Cape Cod home when they arrived.
A 94-year-old woman and a 70-year-old man were inside the home when the cigarette ignited a couch on the front porch, said Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal. The cause was ruled accidental.
