WILMINGTON, DELAWARE (12/25/2018) A 32-year-old Philadelphia man was struck and killed while walking with another man along Route 141 (Centre Road) west of Wilmington on Christmas Eve, the Delaware State Police said. The striking vehicle fled the scene.
The fatality happened about 9 p.m. Monday in the northbound right turn lane about 400 feet south of the Route 48 (Lancaster Pike) intersection.
The second man, a 37-year-old from Wilmington, also was struck and ended up in a ditch but declined medical treatment. Both men were struck from behind by the northbound vehicle.
The Philadelphia man came to rest in the right travel lane. He was taken by ambulance to Christiana Hospital in Stanton, where he was pronounced dead. Police said release of his identity was pending notification of next of kin.
Both men were wearing dark clothing without any reflective material, police said.
Investigators haven’t determined the make or model of the vehicle, but police said it was dark grey in color and should be missing the passenger side mirror.
Northbound Route 141 was closed about three hours as police investigated.
