GREENVILLE, DELAWARE (12/19/2018) Two men exchanged gunfire outside A.I. DuPont High School as people were leaving a basketball game Tuesday night, authorities said.
The incident was reported at 7:44 p.m. in the parking lot at 50 Hillside Road in Greenville.
“These individuals are not affiliated with AI High School but they were spectators during the event,” school Principal Kevin M. Palladinetti said in a message posted on the school’s website.
Delaware State Police troopers at the school as part of the regular security detail for the game with Brandywine High School locked down the building, with some people still inside, and began investigating the gunfire.
After a search of the area, police found no victims and no suspects. They declared the area safe and allowed those inside the building to leave.
“It is a black-eye for our school community which is extremely frustrating considering those responsible for tonight’s ridiculousness do not represent AI,” Palladinetti said.
He said school would open as normal this morning bus drop-off would be only in front of the school, and some traffic delays may result.
Anyone with information on the gunfire is asked to call Detective H. Carroll at 302-365-8467.
