WOODSIDE, DELAWARE (9/8/2018) A 44-year-old woman was killed in a chain-reaction crash involving five vehicles on U.S. 13 (South DuPont Highway), the Delaware State Police said this morning. Two others were injured.
The crash was reported at 5:44 p.m. Friday just north of Walnut Shade Road.
Police said heavy southbound traffic had backed up about a half mile approaching the traffic light at the intersection.
A southbound 2018 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck struck the rear of a stopped 2009 Ford Flex SUV, pushing it into the rear of a 2012 UPS truck, which was forced into the rear of a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, which struck the rear of a 2017 Buick Envision. All of the vehicles were in the left lane.
The UPS truck was forced into a ditch but the other vehicles remained on the highway.
The driver of the Ford Flex, Catina Isaacs of Kenton, was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said she wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the 2018 Silverado, a 29-year-old man from Magnolia, and the driver of the UPS truck, a 37-year-old man from Dover, were both taken by ambulance to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital in Dover. Police described their injuries as not life-threatening and said the Magnolia man wasn’t wearing a seat belt.
U.S. 13 in the area of Longaccre Drive was closed about 4.5 hours while police investigated and the wreckage was cleared.
